Attached you will the program from Bill McClure’s memorial from Sunday. In lieu of flowers the family suggested donations to the Coronado Optimist Club and as of this writing, $1,000 has been raised in Bill’s memory.
President Crawford is looking for an External VP as Clint Coneway has stepped up to be secretary…if you feel you have time to be the liaison between the kids we donate to and the club….this is just the position for you.
Budget committee is meeting tonight and with the $40K raised from SF we will be able to support the kids as we do each year.
Jennifer Landry is seeking help with the JOI CMS kids for their beach clean up on October 7th…she needs someone to pick up the pizza for the kids. Please contact her at 619-392-8855.
SF T-shirts are available until next week…take what you need for you sponsors.
Irish thanked his team of Optimists who assisted at the SuperFrog…a few got some choice words about the traffic direction…welcome the world of cops on traffic posts. STOP..GO..LEFT..RIGHT…NO NOT THAT RIGHT. Thanks for all who helped.
Brags were a little light this week…Kirk bragged on Lyman and Mike Lavin who are the coffee guys at Round Table. Chief Froomin congratulated fellow Optimist and retiree Chief Mike Blood who’s retirement event was on Wednesday. Check out the new digs his lifeguards gave him as a farewell gift…not in the picture-his new swim trunks aka red Speedo. Oh and from the Chief…IT’S HOCKEY season.. perhaps the NFL fans will make hockey their new game of choice.
President Don bragged on Dick Loomis for taking on sponsorship for SF sponsorship’s with a vengeance.
Birthdays for Dana Cavanaugh, Jim Cooper and Fritz Gaylord. Anniversaries: Stan Searfus for 8 yrs and Jim Alley 23 yrs.
Ding-master Blumenthal dinged a few and it seems we re-kindled a few of the dings from last week- but we move on, it is all for the kids. Golf dings to Paul Dudley and Lee Cargill, Roy Mantz for being mentioned in Leslie Crawford’s article about her father, and Chief Froomin for his photo with the Quixote pic, but me’s think Laszlo paid the chief’s fine last week.
Our directory will be out within a few weeks, please make your name and information is all correct. Please share corrections with President Crawford:
Our guest speaker was Ben Reuf to share his video of the Sports Fiesta, but he has a few more cuts and splices to finish up.
Don shared the ups and downs of this year’s SF…MANY UP’S …but our numbers were low which could be due to change in date. Rob Kracht is working on big name sponsorships for the coming year.
Next ten years we have a booked date for the last weekend of July.
Several suggestions of getting a committee and chair picked early and planning starting now…Bill Parry had a few questions and suggestions and then he was nominated to be the SF Chair…I do hope he takes it on…he has the support of the club and a committee is waiting for his leadership.
But we are Optimists: forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.
