Sarah Stillman was with us from the Islander Women’s Club, and a much taller Wren Farley was here with his dad. Wren is pictured to the right with Brendan. Wren is drawing a red ticket Number 7 to benefit Irish Flynn and all the children.
Let’s not forget President Don’s quote du jour: An Optimist is someone who figures that taking a step backward after taking a step forward is not a disaster, it’s a cha-cha.”–Robert Brault
We were treated to a fun, short video of the Sports Fiesta in fast motion put together by Ben Ruef. The talent of these young folks humbles yours truly . Take a look at this video and others of Ben on YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_W3CuwPYafI or just search on You Tube for Coronado Sports Fiesta. I bet you will watch the 2 minute flick more than once. Ben has several more videos on things about town including a wonderful little film on the Lorton Mitchell Memorial Surf event which will be held on November 25. Over to the right you can see our Stan Searfus with the Coronado Connections issue with all the info on this.
Don thanked Irish for getting all the kids fed with nachos, cheese, Doritos, and chili at the Halloween Happening. It was fun for all including Optimists and JOI Club member.
Important Club note***We are in need of a secretary for the club. Generous benefits, nice people to work with, and easy working schedule. Contact the president. A smile is your ticket in.
We sang HBTY to Erin Downey and Gene Rathswohl. The Dingmaster did his best and discovered a new source of pins for those without. Talk to Gov. Aegerter about his sliding scale.
Welcome back to Marta and Dennis with a new wing. Mr. Dorman should only receive virtual pats on the back for a while.
Our special speaker this morning was our own president who has another hat. Don is also the President of the Coronado Flower Association. Today he gave us a preview of the event which is scheduled for April 21-22, but really takes up the entire week at Spreckels Park. The website is WWW.coronadoflowershow.com where you will find a picture of three Optimists smiling for the camera without any indication that they belong to the World’s Finest Optimist Club.
You can find out all about the 47 tents and categories and divisions of this longest running Coronado rite. Since 1922 the town has cleaned up and celebrated our plants. And now we have a garden of beer for the guys. Look it at over and plan on entering a posie or two.
