Fellow Optimists, as we celebrate the new calendar year, the Optimist year is speeding along, and we are keeping so busy.
Congratulations to Dr. Angie Hawk and Bill Meyers for being instrumental in establishing a new Special Needs Club in Chula Vista. Our membership is growing, and the momentum is going strong. I welcome ideas to help build your clubs and our membership.
We salute Lieutenant Governor Audrey Eller who has a grand idea to celebrate 100 years of Optimism and introduce family, friends and potential new members to Optimism. Audrey has created Act of Kindness Cards to hand out to people as we, Optimists share an Act of Kindness…for our 100 Years of Optimism. Let’s all do One Hundred Acts of Kindness for the anniversary year.
Please accept my Act of Kindness In Celebration of the 100thAnniversary of Optimist International Please contact me for more information regarding our Optimist Club Club name: _______________________ Telephone: _______________________

What are those acts? The acts can be opening a door for someone, send a note of thanks and/or appreciation, donate books to Friends of Library, let someone go in front of you at the grocery store line, donate used towels to an animal shelter, or create your own Act of Kindness beginning with a simple smile. Here is the card, and on the reverse side will be the creed. Feel free to create and have it in your pocket for that moment of kindness
The Optimist year is moving along so quickly that before you know it, we will be celebrating at the convention in Louisville, Kentucky. In celebration of 100 Years of Optimism, let’s have a party. All are invited, Optimists, Optimist friends and family. On January 26th, 2019 at Lomas Santa Fe Country Club, we will have our Second Quarterly meeting in the morning. The party will start promptly at 11am with a wonderful buffet lunch, including an Optimist 100 Years’ Cake and a raffle/silent auction to raise money for CALSO and OI Foundations.
My gratitude goes out to all the clubs whose members are working support the children in your communities from selling hams in Valley Center, to recycling in El Cajon, to helping at sporting events in Coronado, to donating gifts to military families for Christmas with Sunrise/SD, to wrapping books for kids with Del Mar/Solana Beach, to giving gift cards for VIP families in Imperial Beach, to the Rodeo in Lakeside, to providing Military Baskets in Bonita, and to so many more events CALSO clubs are participating in.
Don’t forget the visit by Optimist International President Rebecca Butler-Mona on January 2, 2019.
Optimists are amazing people who make an impact on the lives of our children. Let’s keep up the support of the youth in our communities and see you all at our celebration party on January 26th at Lomas Santa Fe Country Club.
I look forward to the centennial year of celebrating Optimism and Bringing out the Best into the Next Century.
