Brother John Bowen returned from Old England where John tore a page from a hymnal because he wanted to bring a prayer back to us. This is a keeper…
Give me good digestion Lord, and also something to digest;
Give me a healthy body Lord, and the sense to keep it at its best.
Give me a healthy mind o Lord, to keep the good and pure in sight,
Which seeing wrong is not appalled but finds a way to set it right.
Give me a mind that is not bored, that does not whimper, whine, or sigh,
Don’t let me worry over much about that fussy thing called “I”.
Give me a sense of humor, Lord and the grace to see a joke,
To get some happiness from life and to pass it on to other folk.
Caroline Lull started the pledge. Don and Carla, while pledging, were praying that one of you is getting ready to step forward to take over Caroline’s role as our Treasurer.
It was great to see BJ Adelson in his customary chair. At the other end of the hall we noted the absence of Jim Zoll who managed to damage his knee while performing some stunt. Sally is in charge of the mending. Lyman Green’s dad is recovering from some invasive procedures and Lyman is handling the mending.
The paper carried a lovely obituary of our dear friend Jim Perino. His life will be celebrated at St. Paul’s at 2 PM on Saturday, Sept. 22,
A memorial plaque will be dedicated to the memory of Stan Searfus on Sunday, Sept. 30 at 1000. More on the location later.
We gave a sad goodby to a new member. John Schaefer has been called to Salt Lake City–another beach community, The Dingmaster tried to fine John before he headed out the door. Mark usually plays fair. But it’s for the kids, right? The mayor got fined, the school sup got fined, Dick and Joanie Madouse showed up and got fined. Kirk Henry was in a color picture and got fined. John Watson fled out the door with Mark about to finger him. Mark seems not to run out of material.
At the top of the page we have a picture of CHS Track Coach George Green with the oversized check. The young men and women are the track stars of last year’s team and the core of this year’s squad. Allison White, Lauren White,Teresa Perez, Cole Mullen, Angela Perez, Spencer Busby, and sisters Ronda and Sofia van Arsdale were praised by Coach Green.

GUEST SPEAKER: Optimist Webmaster and Author Rick Lakin (that’s him on the right ) told us all about leaving something for our grandkids when they ask their parents, “Who is this old guy, gal in the picture holding me?” Leave them a book. Leave them your stories and your adventures. Write to them telling what you dreamed of doing and who or what helped or stopped you (for a while). Such a gift will mean so much more than that ceremonial sword or early Timex watch that might seem like a good legacy. I bet that a nice yarn about growing up in Nebraska and going off to see the ocean as a navy man would be more appreciated than that player piano that you are saving for them.
Rick gave us all sorts of ideas and paths to take. Go for it.
