We gave money to the Surf Teams at CHS and CMS and met the menbers of the skate team. Members in the picture are Marianna Dick, Luke Johnson, Sydney Zochner, Cole Quinlan, Liam Casey, Ben Ruef, & Francis Hendrickson. Moms Julie Ruef and Alexandra Polles were with the teams. The coach is Mike Gillard.

The gavel was passed and Carla took to the lectern as our 49th president in the Hundredth Year of Optimism. Jim Cooper led off with the prayer to our Guardian Angels, and Bill Parry started the pledge.

Before we get to the meeting we go to the party which Molly McKay and Renee Cavanaugh organized for the gang. We had a splendid time of it with a special appearance of limerick poet Jack Couture with:

There once was a dogface who mastered signing

and thus found a profession,

The poem went on to describe Jim and Sally Zoll who were missing due to Jim’s knee problem. Come on back, Jim. We need somebody to lead the marching.

The party advanced (or decended) with CARJACK giving questions to match the answers (e.g. “Catch 22: The Padres will do what with 100 fly balls” and “Sisss, Boom, Baa!!: What happens when a sheep blows up.”)

The Calypso Cafe was a fun venue especially with Paula Couture pouring the drinks and opening the beer bottles. At the bottom or the page you can enjoy a few more pictures from Lee Cargill’s camera .

Irish Flynn thanked all those who helped the 700-900 bikers in the SuperFrog on Sunday: Renee Cavanaugh, Don Crawford, Paul Demke, Dennis Dorman, Diana Drummey, Dan Hendrickson, Jim Jamison, Pat Kelly, Cynthia Kosciuczyk, Rob Kracht, Ted Krohne, Mike Lavin, Richard Owens, Marta Radcliffe, Gene Rathswohl, and John Watson. Molly Wardell came from the Building Industry of SD and her own company Wardell Builders to talk to us about Younger Generations & Construction Industries. She is a sparkplug in working hard to convince the high school kids to think about getting started in the building trades. There is a bright future for boys and girls who want to get involved in a challenging and creative field with plenty of room for growth. Molly grew up in a family that had a successful business in residential construction. With her clear delight in outlining the potential for bright kids doing creative work Molly is an ideal representative to young people. She is their advocate in this field.

Erin told us her youngest daughter is at the U of Portland and doing well.

Doug Grossman told us his son was on the BSA Troop 801 Color Guard that helped kick off the Optimist Convention. He is on the march to Eagle Scout.

Brad Gerbel bragged about Laz and the CPD who met the community at 1134 for coffee last week.

We all are bragging about Renee Cavanaugh who is our Life Member awardee this year. Yay, Renee!

Our dear friend Jim Perino’s life will be celebrated at St. Paul’s at 2 PM on Saturday, Sept. 22. There will be a reception afterwards at their home: 409 First St.
