New potential sponsor:
Hi, I’m (name) and I am a member of the Optimist Club of Coronado.
The main reason Optimist clubs exist is to be friends of youth and, as the card shows, the Optimist Club of Coronado is truly a friend of youth of Coronado whom we support with the money raised by our annual Sports Fiesta.
I’d love to add your business/you to the list of your fellow Coronadoans whose donations have helped us continue this vital support
Existing sponsor
Thank you for your generous donation to last year’s Sports Fiesta.
This card shows the many youth groups that your contribution helped to support last year. I’m hoping that you will continue that support by contributing to this year’s Sports Fiesta, which will take place on July 28th.
The bell rang and the crowd settled down to a prayer from Chris Cervantes and pledge from Cynthia K.
We welcomed guests Mo Gooch!….and our speaker Ed …more to come there.
Rob Kracht and Bill Parry really picked up our Optimist spirits with the down and dirty of ads sales for the SF. You all will be receiving your packet and hit the pavements for those ads. Thanks to all who already hit the streets collecting all the business contacts in town.
New this year we are accepting electronic payments( not political payments…REMEMBER MAYOR!)
SF events are kicking off with the 4th of July Parade with a float, cocktail party for the big donors on July 20th(still in the planning) and then SF July 28th for all the regular events. Getting back into the mix we will have beach volleyball and new this year a carnival and family picnic at Sunset Park. Bill and his crew are doing lots of planning and the entire club please must all be involved.
Brags from several…one special from Mullins and Cervantes honoring our Speaker Ed and his support of the Boys and Eagles Scouts he supports with his leadership.
Cynthia a publisher writer will be signing her book at Warwicks in La Jolla this weekend.
For those who were lucky to have met and know Optimist and Capt Ed Behm his services will be, at
Ft. Rosecrans at 10:30 am on 25 May, a celebration of life at 12:30 pm at the Coronado Golf Course.
Everyone is welcome to attend.
Our own Dick Owens and guest speaker, Ed shared some details of the Army’s Special Forces. It’s five primary missions: Unconventional warfare, foreign defense, special reconnaissance, direct actin and counter terrorism. But to be a part of this special forces you need to: be a male, airborne qualified, able to swim 50 meters in boots and BDU’S, score high on the APFT test, able to be clear for secret security, and an IQ above 110. Then comes the hard part: training. marching with 50 lbs back packs, runs with and without the packs, obstacle course, understand how to navigate with map and compass(what no GPS from my phone?) solve problems with stressed due to physical and mental exhaustion, and be a team player.
In 2017 2000 soldiers applied for the forces, 400 were selected and 176 succeeded to graduation. The training does not stop, once in the forces more advanced training takes place to maintain the soldier’s skills and abilities as a US ARMY SPECIAL FORCES Soldier.
